Gordon Forstner
Gordon Forstner was Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Dofasco Inc. from 1998 until mid-2007, where he was responsible for corporate and financial communications, brand management, government relations, industry relations, employee communications, marketing communications, community relations and corporate social responsibility. He was also responsible for aligning the communications and public affairs activities of Dofasco's subsidiaries in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
Dofasco was Canada's largest steel producer, with 12,000 employees engaged in iron ore mining, steel marketing, production and processing. Dofasco was acquired by ArcelorMittal, the largest steel company in the world. Gord was part of the core team that managed Dofasco through its acquisition by ArcelorMittal.
Before joining Dofasco in 1998, Gord was the Vice President and General Manager with an international communications and government relations consulting firm. He was based in Calgary, where he worked with clients in the natural resources, energy, technology and healthcare sectors, as well as with government and industry associations. He began his career in the publishing industry. He has served on the Boards of companies engaged in electricity distribution, advanced technology, and municipal economic development, and is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burlington Hydro Inc. He also has a long record of community service with various organizations in the arts, healthcare, and environmental arenas.
He is currently an appointed member of the Premier's Advisory Panel on Climate Change, to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
