Ian Hamilton
Ian Hamilton was Director of Communications and Public Affairs for Falconbridge Limited, and subsequently for Xstrata Nickel following the acquisition of Falconbridge. He left Xstrata Nickel in mid-2007. At Falconbridge and Xstrata Nickel, he held responsibility for a variety of functions relating to corporate communications, employee and labour relations, media relations, government relations, community and stakeholder relations, corporate social responsibility reporting, crisis and issues management, and website and intranet communications. Located at head office in Toronto, Ian also worked with operations in 14 countries to align communications efforts and to address issues and opportunities.
Ian was part of a small team that managed the merger of Noranda and Falconbridge, the subsequent bid for Falconbridge by Inco Limited, and the ultimate acquisition of Falconbridge by Xstrata for $27 billion (Cdn.), which was the largest takeover in Canadian history at the time.
Previously, Ian was Manager, Communications and Public Affairs with Dofasco Inc. He has also worked as a senior consultant with two international communications and public affairs agencies. He began his career as a journalist, working as a reporter for both radio and print media. Ian has been involved in community service efforts, including as Board member for a community-based organization, and as volunteer communications committee member for the United Way of Hamilton-Burlington.
